Population

Grosse Isle is located 13 km NW of Winnipeg. The name is French for big island because it was a high ground surrounded by muskeg. It is the destination of the Prairie Dog Express with a museum with an old school, church, prairie home, and picnic area.

Prairie Dog Express
The train leaves Inkster Junction in north Winnipeg on Saturdays and Sundays from July 1 – Sept long weekend, during the summer. They run to Grosse Isle then turns around. There are vendors, food, and entertainment, childrens small train rides.

Grosse Isle Museum
On the weekends that the Prairie Dog Express runs, interpreters are available to demonstrate and explain some history of the area.
